Do you love The Great British Bake Off? Have you always dreamed of taking part? If the answer is yes then The Big Birmingham Bake is the place for you!
If you are to wander along Floodgate Street in Digbeth you will stumble across a tent full of very familiar looking workbenches with all the baking essentials needed to whip up a masterpiece. On the day we were there it was doughnut month. There were 6 other couples and three judges who explained we had 90 minutes to bake. We were given a recipe and all the ingredients were weighed out for us. All we had to do was follow the recipe and put our own twist on it.
Once we had created our batter we headed over to Creation Corner which was full of liquid essences, zests and spices to create a truly unique bake. We went for a banana and butterscotch essence for our ring doughnuts and a butterscotch essence for our dome doughnuts with a chai flavored creme patisserie. Once we had baked them both in the oven and had taken a sneaky trip to the bar we went wild with the decorating. There was loads of choice available including a rainbow coloured selection of edible spray, sprinkles and icing.
We went for an elegant golden theme with gold spray, star sprinkles and banana chips. I was quite proud of our efforts!

The 90 minutes flew by and the judges announced it was judgment time. All our bakes were laid out on the workbench and our doughnuts were tasted and critiqued. After a tense deliberation it was announce we had come second. I was delighted and the best part of the night was that we were allowed to take our bakes home. Hoorary!

We had a brilliant time at The Big Birmingham Bakes and would definitely recommend it. It was a really fun evening and would make a perfect date night, works do, family bonding or mate date. For more information about The Big Birmingham Bake click on the link.
