Goldilocks and the Three Bears

The cast of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.jpg

Wow, Wow, Wow!   What an amazing night we had at Birmingham Hippodrome Goldilocks and the Three Bears Panto.  To try and explain how amazing it is, is almost impossible.  All I can say is it is like no panto we've seen before but I will try my best to give you a small taster of the treat that is in store for you.

Goldilocks and the Three Bears follows the story of Dame Betty Barnum and her daughter Goldilocks’ circus which is under threat from an evil rival circus owner.  With the help of their madcap circus friends, they’re battling to rescue their Big Top from ruin. Will they succeed? All seems lost, until three brilliant bears join the gang…

To begin with the sheer scale of the performance was so impressive.  The costumes changes were spectacular and the use of puppets were breath taking.  The giant animal puppets involved in the zoo scenes left my son whispering to me "Mummy is that a real elephant?!"

The level of acting was fantastic.  Jason Donovan made a convincingly brilliant evil ringmaster. But as usual Matt Slack stole the show with his constant jokes that had both young and old roaring with laughter.  He really is a force to behold in the panto world and totally made the show for us.

There were lots more treats in store throughout the show with performances from magicians, motorbike stunt drivers and acrobats.  There really was something for everyone.

After another really hard year for a lot of us, Birmingham Hippodrome Panto really was the tonic we needed.  It was full of laughter, sparkles and breathtaking performances.  It was the perfect start to 2022 and a more hopeful New Year.  Thank you Birmingham Hippodrome!
